We have researched other organizations that offer volunteer work experiences in other countries (and in Guatemala) and found that they typically charge $900 to $1800 for similar two week work experiences. This amount, of course, does not include your airfare or your cost of getting to the project. We found one organization that is advertising at over $2,000 US for a two week trip.
We feel our price is a bargain for your two week experience and is especially cost effective for you if you extend your trip to 3 or more weeks. Your donation to the orphanage covers your food, utilities, occasional internet access (if it's working), bottled water at the home and some snacks. If you have diet concerns, you may want to bring some favorite foods with you. You might also want to supplement your diet with fresh fruits and vegetables from the area towns at your own cost. Fruits and vegetables are very inexpensive in Guatemala and your spending money will go a long way.
Our objective is to provide working volunteer staff members at the orphanage while supporting and funding the budget of the home. You may find that the 'good' fund raising organizations return 75% to 85% of the funds raised to their cause. Those organizations are far and few between. Our goal is to exceed that as we are aiming for 90%. No, not 90% in our pocket as some organizations have managed to get away with. 90% of your fee will go to Hogar Miguel Magone orphanage and its operation. That is our pledge to you.
